Modality: Private
What to expect?
- Journey through nature: The adventure typically begins with an exciting boat or traditional canoe ride, often along the Chagres River, deep into the lush rainforest. This tour offers stunning views of the local flora and fauna.
- Warm welcome: Upon arrival at the community, you’ll be greeted by members of the Emberá tribe with traditional music (playing instruments such as panpipes and bongos) and dances. Their hospitality is genuine, and they will make you feel welcome.
- Cultural immersion: You’ll have the opportunity to learn about their ancestral way of life. They’ll explain how they build their houses on stilts, how they prepare their food, and how they make their impressive handicrafts. You’ll be able to see their intricate body paint (jagua) designs up close and, if you wish, even get one made for you.
- Crafts and local support: The Emberá are known for their beautiful handicrafts, such as woven baskets, seed jewelry, and figures carved from wood or tagua. Purchasing these pieces will not only provide a unique souvenir, but will also directly support the community’s local economy.
- Traditional lunch: You’ll enjoy an authentic lunch, typically including fresh tilapia fish from the river and patacones (fried plantains), served in a simple and traditional way.
